Bits
–
Here at Fylde Saddlery, we host an extensive stock of equipment, gear, clothing, and accessories for all your horse riding needs. Part of this range includes horse bits, a small yet vital addition for your horse to use during riding sessions. A horse bit is a form of horse tack used during equestrian activities. It is placed in and around the mouth of the horse, fitting in the natural toothless gap and nestling between its teeth. This prevents the horse from closing its mouth fully and can then be used as part of a negative and positive reinforcement technique. It is held in place by use of a bridle and reins, where you can then hold the horse and communicate with it as you ride. Horse bits are a highly important piece of riding equipment. They assist in communicating more effectively with your horse, and in reinforcing its behaviour in following your commands as the rider. Loosening the pressure on the bits rewards, and tightening the pressure communicates wrongful behaviour to your horse. We offer several different types of horse bits at Fylde Saddlery. For instance, our range of snaffle bits apply pressure to the tongue and corner of the horse’s mouth. When…

Lead Reins
–
Here at Fylde Saddlery, we have a wide range of equestrian items, and in this category you will find our range of lead reins. This range features eight different kinds of lead ropes for horses. Lead reins, also known as leading reins, are a type of rein used to direct your horse’s head left or right. A rein consists of a pair of long straps that are usually connected to the bit, noseband or headpiece. A lead rein or lead rope allows you to control the movement of the horse. As a lead for your horse, it is used to direct horses when riding. When used for riding, the lead reins are able to give horses small commands such as signalling a turn, slowing the speed of the horse, or to stop or rein back. It can also be used to move the horse in circles for training purposes, or for evaluation by a veterinarian. At Fylde Saddlery, we offer lead reins in leather, as well as clip ropes and butterfly lead reins. Our leather lead reins also have the option of a Newmarket chain or a solid brass chain. You may also opt for one without a chain, either…

Saddles – Second-hand
–
If you are looking for a high quality and durable saddle for your horse, without the expense of a new one, our extensive range of second hand saddles is the perfect choice for you. While these may have been used and loved by their previous owner, our choice of second hand horse saddles still maintain much of their original quality and design. We host a wide range of used saddle styles here at Fylde Saddlery. Our Working Hunter range, for instance, is an excellent choice for those riding horses for the purpose of show. Their more forward-cut flap allows you to shorten the stirrups of your saddle, perfect for jumping in worker hunting classes. Even better, the fact they are used saddles makes them a far more affordable choice, while maintaining the essence of their original quality. Alternatively, our Nathan range offers you extra support for improved comfort while you ride. Its knee and high thigh block under the flap of the saddle supports your leg, while a soft padded knee and thigh pad provides you with a cushion against the bumps and aches that can come with riding horses for extended periods of time. These used saddles can be…
Numnahs
–
At Fylde Saddlery, we offer our customers a large selection of equestrian products, and in this category, you will find our range of horse numnahs. These products are designed to be placed under the saddle of a horse as a kind of blanket. This padding is often made of sheepskin, ensuring a soft and fluffy feel for your horse. Here at Fylde Saddlery, we offer a choice of seven different types of numnahs for sale. These include numnahs made from lambskin, cotton, and fleece. We also offer numnahs for a range of different purposes, including those used as ride on covers, anti-slip pads, impact numnahs and comfort numnahs. Unlike a simple saddle cloth, a numnah follows the shape of the saddle, usually slightly larger, so you can see it underneath. A numnah is usually used for two main reasons, which are to protect a valuable saddle from dirt and sweat, as well as to protect your horse’s back. They are able to soak up sweat and avoid it damaging the saddle, and they avoid the saddle from rubbing against the horse and producing pressure sores on the horse’s back. Shock absorbent numnahs can also help the ride to be more…
Girths
–
Here at Fylde Saddlery, we have a wide range of equestrian products, and in this category, we present our horse girths for sale. Here you will find dressage girths for sale along with Atherstone girths, balding girths, show girth products and fabric girths. The girth may also be known as a cinch, and is used to keep the saddle in place on the horse. It passes under the barrel of the equine, which is normally attached to the saddle on both sides by two or three leather straps called billets. A dressage girth is shorter than the girths usually used on other saddles as it has longer billets to keep the buckles away from the rider’s legs. Atherstone girths are leather girths, which are usually all one piece, or may have a single strap to which a thicker, shaped and padded length of leather is sewn. Such shaped girths may have elastic ends. A balding girth’s design prevents it from catching skin as the horse moves, and is suitable for horses that rub or gall easily, have a narrow shoulder area, or have lots of skin that is easily pinched. Depending on your choice, our horse girths…

Within our children’s range of safety stirrups, we offer a choice of nine different types of stirrup, including soft padded leathers in a range of sizes between 30 to 50, in either Havana or black. We also offer a ¾ soft padded option, in Havana at sizes between 30 to 54. Other show leathers for children are available in both colours, measuring 30 inches, 35 inches, 40 inches, 45 inches, 48 inches, 50 inches and 52 inches. For adults, we offer a choice of two stirrups, with the first standard leathers being between 54 and 60, and the second featuring soft padding and available in sizes between 50 and 60. Both are sold in the two colours. When selecting the correct stirrup, sit in the saddle with your feet out of the irons and pull the stirrups so that the bottom hits your ankle bone, keeping in mind that new leathers stretch over time. A stirrup that’s too long will mean your lower leg will swing and you will…
